Services for Weston D. Porter, 77, of West Union, formerly of Waterloo and Iowa City, will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Parrott & Wood Chapel with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, where graveside military rites will be conducted by Becker Chapman Post 138 of the American Legion and Waterloo Post 1623 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Porter died Sunday (Jan. 4, 1987) at Palmer Memorial Hospital, West Union, after a lengthy illness.

He was born Sept. 8, 1909, in Erwin, S. D., son of Nelson W. and Mary L. Landon Porter. He married Genevieve A. Wood on Sept. 6, 1947, in Charles City. He was a construction foreman for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1971. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of West Union; a son, William of Waukee; a daughter, Evelyn St. Germain of San Jose, Calif.; nine grandchildren arid four great-grandchildren; a twin sister, Winifred Blake of Decatur, Ill.; and a brother, L. Vernon Porter of Allison.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to services Thursday at the funeral home, where a public Masonic service conducted by Martin Lodge No. 624 AF&AM will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
