Irene Pelton was born on January 2, 1924, in Blackhawk County, the daughter of Herman H. and Amanda (Beckel) Matthias. On June 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to Wayne E. Pelton at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She enjoyed spending time camping, traveling, gardening, and crocheting. She was an excellent cook and a gracious hostess to her family.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne; one son, Dale (Sharon) Pelton of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Karen (Brent) Muirhead of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Nancy (Bob) Anderson of Jesup; five grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Betty) Matthias of Waterloo; and one sister, Gladys Sims of Cedar Falls.

Irene died on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the Western Home Communities Assisted Living Center in Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by one infant son, Dennis Pelton; two brothers, Floyd Matthias, Melvin Matthias; three sisters, Florence Chapin, Verna Matthias, and Lena Matthias.
