Richard Klein, 58, of Riverside, died at home Tuesday, July 2.

Services 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Riverside, with burial in Mount Olivet
Cemetery. Visitation 4 to 7:30 p.m. today, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service, at Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home, Riverside, (319) 629-5118

Local survivors include a daughter, Jodi Balvanz, and her husband, Aaren, of Cedar Falls.

Richard “Rick” Anthony Klein, 58, of Riverside, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at his home in Riverside. Mass of the Resurrection will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside. Rev. David Brownfield will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Rick’s brothers and sisters. Following the committal service at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the St. Mary’s Parish Center. Visitation for Rick will be held on Monday, July 8, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service at the Sorden-Lewis funeral home in Riverside. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Rick.

Richard Anthony Klein was born on July 26, 1954, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Ralph and Mary (Smith) Klein. He was a 1973 graduate of Highland High School. Rick worked for P&G and was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside and the Newman Center in Iowa City. He enjoyed attending church, listening to music, was an avid Cubs & Hawkeyes fan, love of animals, fishing, gardening, watching movies, playing softball, and helping others in need, but most of all, Rick dearly loved to spend time with his family.

Rick will be deeply missed by his children, Jodi Balvanz and her husband, Aaren of Cedar Falls, Tanya Smith and her special friend, Seth Westfall of Riverside, Kevin Klein and fiancé, Lupe Garcia of North Liberty and Elisa Vilovchik of Illinois; eleven grandchildren: Jaron, Celeste, Reese, MyLei, Presten, Carter, Bryce, Nathan, Kayla, Haeley and Madisyn, mother, Mary Klein of Muscatine, siblings, Jim Klein and his wife, Becky of West Branch, Joan Hora and her husband, Terry of Ainsworth, Kathy Rath and her husband, Ron of Riverside, Joyce Norris and her husband, Roger of Ainsworth, Denny Klein and his wife, Mary of Riverside and Randy Klein and his wife, Tina of Atalissa.

Richard was preceded in death by his father, Ralph, one sister, Carol Anne and one great niece, Chloe Jean Plank.
