WATERLOO — Jean M. Stevens, 89, of Waterloo, died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Friendship Village Pavilion of natural causes.

She was born June 28, 1923, in Waterloo, daughter of John and Edna Lampson Muth. She married William G. Stevens on Aug. 7, 1947, at Grace Methodist Church in Waterloo.

Mrs. Stevens graduated from West High School in 1941 and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota.

Survived by her husband; two sons, John W. (Linda) of Waterloo and Carter J. (Michele) of Denver; three grandchildren, Kirsten, Haley and Sommer; and two nieces, Michelle (Troy) Harder of Wayne, Neb., and Desiree (Randy) Shaw of Hiawatha.

Preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marie; and a sister, Jacqueline

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the church or PEO Chapter FE.

She was a devoted, fulltime homemaker for her family and later a caregiver to her parents and several of her aunts. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, where she had served as a deaconess and member of PEO Chapter FE. She was a board member of the YWCA and involved in Planned Parenthood.
