EVANSDALE — George P. Nichols, 77, of Evansdale, died at home Saturday, June 29, 2013.

He was born Aug. 17, 1935 in Des Moines, son of Frank V. and Frances M. French Nichols. He served in the U.S. Marines Corps during the Korean Conflict.

He married Alfrieda Mae Davis on Oct. 22, 1956, in Holly Springs, Miss. He worked at John Deere in the furnace rebuilding dept.

Survived by his wife; three daughters, Penney E. Cutsforth of Evansdale, Glenda K. (Harold) Oliver of Independence and Shelley R. (Mark) Ingersoll of Waterloo; a sister, Virginia M. (Dennis) Cabanski of Mosinee, Wis.; and seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence V. and Jerry D. Nichols.

Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until services Tuesday. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
