WATERLOO — Dean M. Halverson, 70, of Waterloo, died Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Allen Hospital.

He was born Sept. 10, 1942, son of Melvin and Lula Halverson. He married Janet Lucille Walters Aug. 7, 1965, in Waterloo. She died March 28, 2003.

Mr. Halvorson received his GED from Hawkeye Community College and served in the U.S. Marines from 1961-64. He worked at John Deere for 26 years, retiring in 2003.

Survived by two sons, Dean Jr. (Nikki) and Darold (Nikki) Halverson; two daughters, Deena (Brad) Fischels and Diane (Craig) Halverson; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many children he treated as his own; a brother, John; and a sister, Ellen.

Preceded in death by his wife; his mother; his father; a brother, Herman; and four sisters, Mila, Betty, Larraine, Sharron.

Services: military rites will be conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31 and Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 at 4 p.m. Monday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

He enjoyed fishing, riding and repairing motorcycles, working in his garage, and spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, Ebony. He was a member of the Waterloo UAW and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
