CEDAR FALLS — Irene Osborne Becker, 90, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Oelwein, died at home Tuesday, June 18, 2013.

She was born April 26, 1923, in Boone County, and was placed in an orphanage during the Great Depression. She married Joseph M. Becker in January 1951 in St. Joseph, Mo. He preceded her in death in July 1990.

She attended Broadlawns School of Nursing, Des Moines, training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and the Marine Hospital on Staten Island, New York. After graduation she worked as a night charge nurse for Broadlawns and also worked in the polio and tuberculosis units. She moved to Oelwein to run the office of Drs. Jack and Jaggard and later was charge nurse for Grandview Nursing Home, retiring in 1982.

Survived by two daughters, Christa (Bob) Kelly of Cedar Falls and Patrice “Patty” (Paul) Skinner of Belvidere, Ill.; a son, Mark and Renalda of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Kollmann.

Services: were 11 a.m. today at Trinity Bible Church, Cedar Falls, with inurnment at a later date in Oelwein. Richardson Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
