WATERLOO — George L. Mackamul, 81, of Waterloo, died at home Sunday, June 9. 2013.

He was born Dec. 21, 1931, in Charles City, son of Nicholas and Mae Bill Mackamul. He married Peggy Jones on May 31, 1952, in Roswell, N.M.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1953 and was employed at the shoe shop and theater in Charles City; Rath Packing in Waterloo; owned and operated a shoe and upholstery shop in Swea City; worked at IPS, and then was proprietor of Waverly Bowl Inn. He served as mayor of Bassett, Iowa, and was vice president of Golden Acres Association.

Survived by his wife; three daughters, Lourie (Dan) Usher of Waverly, Vicky (Mark) Wellik of Charlotte, N.C., and Amie (Ty) Bridges of Columbus, Ohio; a son, John (Gena) of Waverly; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Pauline Mackamul of Highland, Calif.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Joe; and two sisters, Anne Hume and Delores Swinton.

Services: Family-directed memorials services will be at 2 p.m. July 22 at Trinity United Methodist Church, Waverly, where visitation will be for an hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. His body has been deeded to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program.

Memorials may be directed to Red Cross or Cedar Valley Hospice.
