Robert “Bob” Dean Dixon passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at the Fountain West Health Care Center in West Des Moines.

A memorial visitation will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday June 13, 2013, at the Westover Funeral Home, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines.

Bob was born in Rockwell City on June 1, 1927, to Royal and Matilda (Krager) Dixon. He served in the Army during World War ll and graduated from Iowa State University as a Mechanical Engineer in 1951.

Bob and his wife Myrna lived in Waterloo for almost 60 years where he worked for John Deere Tractor Works. After retiring he worked for several years at the Black Hawk Tennis Club. He enjoyed many pet cats over the years, gardening, playing tennis, and was an adult committee member for the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed the annual canoe trips to the Boundary Waters with Troop 29. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Waterloo.

Bob and Myrna moved to The Lodge of Ashworth in West Des Moines in 2011 to be near their children and grandchildren. Bob made many new friends there when he played pool, bingo, pepper, and other activities.

Bob is survived by his wife of 60 years, Myrna; two sons, Don and Mark; three daughters, Sandy (Joe) Burvee, Deb Dixon, and Jen Sandusky; his grandchildren, Megan, Andy, and Mike Burvee; Ben Dixon; Bailey Dixon and Josh Sandusky; one great grandson, Jasper Flannery; and his nephews, Bill, Bob and Dick Dixon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Dale.
