CEDAR FALLS - Vernon James Junker, 84, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, at Rosewood Estate from complications of cancer.

He was born June 13, 1928, in Aplington, son of John and Rachael Meester Junker. He married Elizabeth Ann Wiseman on May 26, 1951, at Camp Carson, Colo.; they later divorced.

Mr. Junker served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was retired from John Deere, Waterloo.

Survived by a daughter, Kathy (Steve) Auringer of Evansdale; a son, Michael Cross of Colorado Springs; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Darin) Duffy, Heather (Russell) Dolan, J.D. ( Amy) Auringer and Joshua Cross; four great-grandchildren, Karter, Rylyn, Ella and Olivia; and a sister, Joanne Hippen.

Preceded in death by a son, Stevie; his special friend Thelma Copley; his parents; a brother, Raymond; and a sister, Marian Paterni.

Celebration of life service was today at Rosewood Estate, Waterloo.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers may be directed to Hospice Compassus, 4506 Chadwick Suite A, Cedar Falls 50613.

Vern had a passion for playing cards with friends and watching baseball (especially the Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox); he also enjoyed fishing.
