WATERLOO — Pearl Marguerite Krueger, 89, of Waterloo, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

She was born Jan. 3, 1924, in Howard County, daughter of Jens and Anna Atzen Schmidt. She married Merlyn W. Krueger on Feb. 18, 1943, in Lime Springs. He died May 20, 2010.

She graduated from Lime Springs High School in 1941. Mrs. Krueger worked at J.C. Penney for 25 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church. For about 5 years she played with the Kit ‘n Kaboodle Band performing for local nursing homes, and she also sang in the Friendship Village Chorus.

Survived by a daughter, Sue (Elvin) Meller of Waterloo; two sons, Merlyn Jr. of Greenleafton, Minn., and Davy (Marlene) of Waterloo; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Jacob) Elwart, Scott Meller, Robert Dickson, James (Angela) Dickson, Seth (Jodi) Krueger, Tiffany (Shawn) Moses, Michelle (Joe) Connell, Heather (Paul) Moore and Chad Strausser; 13 great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Gary Dickson of Collierville, Tenn.

Preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Kay Dickson; six sisters, Annabelle Monthy, Vera Billman, Leone Schmidt, Mae Schmidt, Marvel Hughes and Viola Shea; and four brothers, Henry, Roy, Harry and James Schmidt.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to Walnut Ridge Christian School or Friendship Village Auxiliary.
