WATERLOO — Kenneth K. Eckenrod, 86, of Waterloo, died Monday, May 27, 2013, at Allen Hospital.

He was born Nov. 8, 1926, on the family farm in rural Ionia, the son of Leonard and Cleo Tucker Eckenrod. He married Mabel Stille on May 12, 1945, in Belton, Texas, while serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a material handler at the Waterloo John Deere Tractor Works for 31 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a longtime member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, the Men’s Club and the Honor Guard of the Becker-Chapman American Legion and the VFW.

Survived by his wife; two daughters, Kathryn (Lyle) Buhr of Waterloo and Rita Martens of Bettendorf; a son, Kerry (Mary) Eckenrod of Raymond; six grandchildren, Traci (Tony) McNally, Brian (Lesa) Buhr, Michelle Hausch, Ryan Martens, Sara (Tom) Whyte and Amanda (Zack) Bolton; nine great-grandchildren, Alexander and Abraham McNally, Abbie Buhr, Jordan, Lucius, and Rhys Martens, Mary and Elizabeth Whyte and Chris Bolton; two sisters, Mary Lou( Bob) Haaker of Flippin, Ark., and Shirley Eckenrod of Milwaukee; and three sisters-in-law.

Preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Donald, Robert, Leslie, Richard and Jerry; and a sister, Pat Schwartzkopf.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138, the VFW Post 1623, and the Iowa National Guard Honors Detail. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with a military walk-by at 7 p.m., and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church or the American Cancer Society.
