KOUNS, WADDLE, STONE

WATERLOO — Marion L. Kouns, 94, of Waterloo, died at home Sunday, May 19, 2013.

He was born Sept. 24, 1918, in Vinton, son of George and Ethel Waddle Kouns. He married Beverly Stone on Feb. 7, 1948; she died April 3, 1997.

He attended schools in Vinton. Mr. Kouns served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a passenger on the first Honor Flight from Waterloo. He was a car salesman for numerous dealerships in the metro area.

Survived by a son, Randy (Patty) of Waterloo; a daughter-in-law, Roxann Kouns of Raymond; four grandchildren, Danyel (Matt) Nelson, Stacey (Eric) Vollbrecht, Angela (Jeremy) Schmidt and Dan Jenkins; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jim and Bill; a great-granddaughter; a brother, Charles; and a grandson-in-law, Matthew Nelson.

Visitation: 4 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, where military rites will be conducted at 4 p.m. by the Evansdale AMVETS and Waterloo AMVETS. Burial will be at a later date.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

He enjoyed stock car racing, NASCAR, ballroom dancing and playing his organ. Marion loved riding his motorcycle; he was a member of the Iowa Goldwing Riders Association.
