WATERLOO — Samuel W. (Sam) Walthour, 88, of Marshalltown, formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Iowa Veterans Home.

He died July 23, 1924, in Swissvale, Pa., son of Samuel and Mary Reese Walthour. He married Maxine M. Wright on Aug. 16, 1947, in Bloomfield, N.J. She died Oct. 27, 2004.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Mr. Walthour was founder and executive director of Boys & Girls Club of Waterloo.

Survived by a son, Frederick (Laura) of McAllen, Texas; a daughter, Kathryn (Greg) Glidewell of Tripoli; four grandchildren, William Walthour, Samuel, Sarah and Benjamin Glidewell; and two great-granddaughters, Mia and Maxine.

Preceded in death by a son, Samuel Jr.

Graveside services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Waterloo Cemetery with military honors by Active Duty Marine Corps and Marine Corps League. Locke Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Cedar Valley.
