EVANSDALE - Helen M. "Shorty" Steele, 69, of Evansdale, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at her home of natural causes.

She was born May 6, 1938, in Decorah, daughter of George and Mary Peterson Zeien. She married Lyle Steele on Sept. 9, 1956, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua.

Survived by her husband; four sons, Larry (Kelly) of Witchita, Kan., Danny (Mary) of Evansdale, Joey of Canyon Country, Calif., and Mike of Waterloo; a daughter, Susan Steele of Waterloo; eight grandchildren: Ross Steele, Audrey Steele, Mathew Steele, Brittney Corcoran, Amanda Corcoran, Justin Steele, Jennifer Becker and Colton Becker; and a brother, James Zeien of Evansdale.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Gray and Geraldine Severtsgaard.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, and for an hour before services Tuesday.
