Robert Leslie Reid was born in Mapleton, Iowa, on October 20, 1923, the son of Dr. Leslie and Emma (Lund) Reid. He passed away on February 9, 2010, at Bartels Lutheran Home, Waverly, IA.

Bob graduated from Mapleton High School in 1941 and attended Radio Signal School in Des Moines, graduating in 1942. On February 14, 1944, he was united in marriage to Lillian A. Hofstad at Camp Roberts, California. Upon completion of his military service Bob and Lillian returned to Iowa, settling in the Cedar Falls area.

He was in the automotive repair industry for many years and owned University Body Shop, from which he retired in 1980. Bob was also involved in many civic activities, serving on the Black Hawk County Zoning Commission from 1968 to 1981.

He was instrumental in forming the Iowa Stock Car Racing Association and was a member of the El Kahir Shrine Potentate's Escort; Waterloo York Rite Bodies; Janesville American Legion Post #522; Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49 (lifetime member); Messiah Lutheran Church, Janesville; and was a 60-year member of Black Hawk Masonic Lodge #65, Cedar Falls.

Bob is survived by his wife, Lillian, of Janesville, IA; two daughters, Joan (Don) Pepin of Janesville, and Sharon (Mike) Keith of Cedar Falls, IA; one son, Keith (Barb) Reid of Janesville; one sister, Mary Ellen (Chuck) Smith of Texas; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John, and his sister, Barbara Dawn.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church, Janesville, with inurnment at a later date in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, Cedar Falls. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Richardson Funeral Home, and for one hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be given to Shriners Hospital for Children Transportation Fund or Waverly Hospice.
