WATERLOO — Kent M. Stephen, 82, of Waterloo, died Sunday, May 5, at Covenant Medical Center of a heart attack.

He was born Oct. 5, 1930, in Fredericksburg, son of Charles and Velva Alcock Stephen. He was raised by Clyde and Bess Clary. He married Wilma J. Green on Nov. 7, 1954, in Tripoli. She died April 28, 2010.

Mr. Stephen graduated from Fredericka High School in 1948. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 37 years on Dec. 1, 1995. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of Waterloo First United Methodist Church and a life member of National Association of Letter Carriers.

Survived by a son, Gary of Loveland, Colo.; two daughters, Gayle (Joe) Meyers of Renton, Wash., and Pamela (Gary) Martin of Waterloo; three grandsons, Patrick, Andrew and Daniel Meyers; a brother, Keith (Marcy) of Evansdale; two stepgranddaughters, Kristi Martin and Melissa (Aaron) Driscoll; and four stepgreat-grandchildren, Joelyn, Isaiah, Amiyah and Jalyssa.

Preceded in death by his wife; and two sisters, Kathleen Harnisch and Zoella Benz.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Locke Funeral Home, with entombment in Garden of Memories Cemetery mausoleum, with military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to ALS Association / Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
