CEDAR FALLS — Virginia Howard, 86, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Cedar Falls, daughter of Hiram and Helena Lewke Van Heuvelen. She married Fred S. Howard on Nov. 14, 1945, in Cedar Falls. He died Nov. 14, 1984.

Mrs. Howard graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1944 and went to Washington, D.C., to work as a secretary for the Department of the Navy. After World War II, she returned to Cedar Falls and worked as a secretary for Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa), Viking Pump Co. and area insurance agencies until her retirement in 1991.

Survived by three sons: Alan D. (Mary) of Cedar Falls, Bruce E. (Bobbie) of Guam and David S. (Deb) of Mount Pleasant; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church, with visitation for an hour before services, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be directed to Sartori Hospital Auxiliary.
