Kills Self, Financial Problems

Mrs. Vera Worm Uses
Shotgun in Suicide

A 46-year-old woman was found dead Wednesday afternoon of a single shotgun blast apparently self inflicted, police said Thursday morning. County medical examiner Dr. Paul O'Keefe has ruled the death of Mrs. Vera Pearl Worm, of 210½ Courtland St., a suicide. He said her body was found by her landlady at the foot of the basement stairs at the Courtland St. address. Mrs. Worm apparently was despondent over financial problems, Dr. O'Keefe said Thursday.

Mrs. Worm was found lying at the foot of the stairs on her back with a .410 shotgun pointed at her forehead.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Parrott & Wood Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Worm will be Saturday at 11 a. m. at the Parrott and Wood Funeral Home. The casket will not be opened at any time.

She was born Vera Pearl Aegerter, on December 28, 1920, at Sumner, Iowa, the daughter of William and Addie Olds Aegerter, and was married in California in May of 1942*, to Robert Worm.

Following the death of her husband 16 years ago at Cedar Rapids, where the home had been made, Mrs. Worm had resided here and was employed the past 10 years at Neal's Fashion Center. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Diana Lynn, at home; a sister, Mrs. Bennie Bjornson, of 2621 Ansborough Ave.; a brother, Harold Aegerter, of 1034 Oregon St., and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Aegerter, of 116 Irving Street.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and one sister.

NOTES:

* The newspaper image was rather muddy and it looked like they were married in 1946 or 1948, but, information on Findagrave (Chuck) says they were married in May of 1942, and also Robert Worm's obituary says it was May of 1942.

Newspaper listed the daughter's name as Donna Lynn, but her husband's obit and the daughter Diana's obit say "Diana".
