CEDAR FALLS — Marvin E. “Marv” Diemer, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

He was born May 30, 1924, in New Auburn, Minn., son of Herman and Marie Arndt Diemer. He married Lois Fullbright on Sept. 18, 1954, in Cedar Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Lois; two sons, Mike of Florida and David of California; one daughter, Lori (David) Ortley of Montana; and four grandchildren: Ryan, Beth, Michael and Bailey.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Nazareth Evangelical Lutheran Church, Cedar Falls.

Mr. Diemer served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and earned his BA from Drake University in 1950. He was a public accountant until his retirement in 1978. He served in the Iowa Legislature as a state representative from 1978 to 1992. He was a proud member of the Rotary Reserves, Nazareth Lutheran Church, AMVETS and the American Legion.

Anyone who had ever met Marv knew that his handshake was as strong and true as his heart. Marv’s extensive volunteer work served the community well. His favorite was the Rotary Prairie Park where he spent numerous hours enjoying the seasons as well as the battles with sweet clover and Chinese elm. His love of volunteering was matched by his passion for the New York Yankees.
