WATERLOO - Thomas Bierie, 78, of Hampton, Va., formerly of Waterloo, died Tuesday May 28, 2002, of natural causes.

He was born Feb. 4, 1925, in Waterloo, son of Fred arid Irene Moeller Bierie. He married Elizabeth "Libby" Wylie in Waterloo.

Mr. Bierie attended Loras College, Dubuque, then worked for IC Railroad. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a major.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Deborah Alfrey and Michele Taylor; two sons, Rick T. and John "Jack;" six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a sister, Margaret French of Bull Shulls, Ark.

Preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille and Genevieve; and a brother, the Rev. Elwyn Bierie.

Services: 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Hampton, with committal services at 10 a.m. Monday in Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton. Friends may call for an hour before services Sunday at the church. R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton, is in charge of arrangements.
