WATERLOO — Otto Robert “Bob” Hummel, 91, of Waterloo, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Ossian Senior Hospice, Ossian; Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Decorah, (563) 382-8651.

He was born Aug. 26, 1921, in Waterloo, son of Harry and Nina Hostetler Hummel. He married Barbara J. Short on May 24, 1971, in Las Vegas. She died Dec. 16, 2010.

Mr. Hummel attended Waterloo’s West High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1942-43. He operated the Waterloo Lumber Yard, a bowling alley and car wash in Waterloo.

Survived by two sons: William Paul (Constance) of Red Rock, Ariz., and Robert Charles of Evansdale; two sisters-in-law, Florence Gehling of Decorah, and Sally (Les) Sevcik of Traer; along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and a brother, Jack.

Private family memorial service: will take place at a later date, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo. Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, Decorah, is in charge of arrangements.

Together he and his wife enjoyed the time spent in Arizona. He was a member of the Martin Lodge No. 624 AF & AM Masonic Lodge in Waterloo, for 67 years. He enjoyed woodworking, socializing and playing cards.
