EVANSDALE — Gerald Leroy “Jerry” Boogren, 78, of Evansdale, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Allen Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born July 17, 1934, in Aurora, Neb., son of Lenart and Helen Christiansen Boogren. He married Betty Boone on Feb. 6, 1960, and they later divorced. He then married Doris Ann Jones on Jan. 2, 1976.

Mr. Boogren was employed by John Deere & Company, retiring in 1997. He previously was a Sprint Car driver in California. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Navy.

Survived by his wife of Evansdale; a son, Thomas (Gwen) of Yuma, Ariz.; three daughters: Diana Starkey and Lametta Suzanne (Michael) Schwartz, both of California, and Nicole Ann (Jeff) Heiselman of Waterloo; four brothers: Robert, Larry (Jody) and Jack, all of Colorado, and Kenny Boogren of California; a sister, Karen Chalfont of California; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and very special friends, Les Stern and Sharon Sharar.

Preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Boogren.

There will be no services: a memorial gathering will be held at his home at a later date.
