John P. Scott
Cedar Falls, Iowa

John was born March 7, 1927, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, the son of William and Doris (Cheney) Scott. He attended school in Ft. Dodge and went on to serve his Country in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Ft. Dodge and graduated from High School in 1947.

He married Lila Denclau in 1948 in Ft. Dodge and later divorced. He then married Sally Stone August 5, 1972 in Ft. Dodge. He had owned and operated the Dairy Sweet in Early and Gowrie, then the Roller Skating Centers in Osage and Carroll, then worked for Standard Engineering in Ft. Dodge, then was custodian at Corpus Christy Elementary in Ft. Dodge, then custodian at the Osage School systems and moved to Cedar Falls in 1979 where he retired as the Lead Custodian at Cedar Falls High School in 1991.

He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, holding various offices, member of the International Lutheran Laymen League, member of the Cedar Falls Rough Risers Kiwanis Club, where he served as long time secretary, was Lt. Governor of Nebraska/Iowa Division 8 of Kiwanis, member of Cedar Falls America Legion Post #237, where he held various offices. John was his happiest and best when he was helping with fund raisers for one of these organizations.

Survived by his wife, Sally of Cedar Falls; sons, David John (Denise) Scott and Daniel John Scott, both of Omaha, NE and Matthew John (Lisa) Scott of Cedar Falls; daughters, Julie Kay (Don) King and Connie Mae (Steve) DeVivo, both of Broken Arrow, OK; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Roy (Evelyn) Scott of Gowrie and sister, Delores (Jack) Umbaugh of Rialto, CA.

John died Wednesday, August 18, 2004, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ralph Scott and sister, Della DeRome.
