E. J. Michel, 83, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, April 29, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

He was born May 15, 1922, in Clermont, son of John and Iva Monroe Michel. He married Phyllis I. Osmundson on Aug. 27, 1950, in Clermont. He graduated from West Union High School in 1940 and attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa for two years.

Mr. Michel served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had worked for Northwestern Bell, Qwest and U.S. West for 35 years, retiring in 1982 as outside plant engineer. E.J. Loved to play golf and had a great interest in antique autos. He was a member of the American Legion in West Union and was active with Boy Scout Troop 55. He had also been involved in conducting over 500 Eagle Scout Award Ceremonies with area troops.

Survivors include his wife, Phyl of Cedar Falls; two sons, Kenton G. (Kay) of Waterloo and Kurt E. (Sara) of Oakwood, GA.; a daughter, Kerry Lea Michel of Cedar Falls; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ione Kleppe.
