SCHMITZ, TEGLER, MANROSS, BENEDICT, KOEHLER, OVERMANN, CARPENTER

WATERLOO, IOWA - Paul D. Schmitz, 73, of Waterloo, died Sunday, January 5, at Covenant Medical Center from complications of MRSA.

He was born April 27, 1929, in rural Gilbertville, son of Leo and Martha Tegler Schmitz. He married Marcene Manross June 11, 1955, in New Hampton.

Mr. Schmitz was employed for 26 years as a supervisor of plumbing at the John Deere Waterloo Operation Component Works, retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps serving in the Korean War.

Survived by: his wife of Waterloo; a son, Danny (Sherry) of Waterloo, two daughters, Colleen (Joe) Benedict of Cedar Rapids and Beth (Tony) Koehler of Warsaw, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Aeneas, Nathan, Nicholas, Amanda, Rebecca, Kerbee and Kyra; a brother, Kenneth of Sioux City; and three sisters, Esther Overmann of Fargo, North Dakota, Sister Helene Schmitz S.S.N.D. of New Prague, Minnesota, and Sister Dolores Schmitz S.S.N.D. of Waverly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Reynold, Leo, Robert, Irvin, Louis, Gerald and Norbert; and a sister, Mary Rose Carpenter.

Mass of Christian burial: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, St. John's site, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
