Elvin was born December 13, 1914, in Black Hawk County, Iowa, the son of Christian and Christine (Nielsen) Sloth. He graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1932 and later served his Country in the United States Navy during World War II.

On February 28, 1942, he was united in marriage to Mildred B. Nielsen in Kahoka, MO. He worked as a painter with Pete Olsen Paint Contractors and then worked for the Dike Hardware Store for 20 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Danish Brotherhood, Cedar Valley Danes, Yesterday Antique Club, Dike American Legion Post #471 and the Voiture Nationale 40/8.

Elvin is survived by his wife, Mildred B. of Cedar Falls; daughter, Glenda M. (Larry) Muller of Ames, IA; grandson, Monty (Wendy) Muller of Urbandale, IA; great grandson, Caden Muller of Urbandale, IA and brother, Gordon (Jan) Sloth of Dike, IA.

Elvin died Monday, December 1, 2003, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Verner Sloth and sister, Agnes Andersen.
