Services are tentatively set for Wednesday for Wendy Sue Swift, 14, of 1253 Doreen St., who was killed about midnight Saturday when struck by a car.

She was born January 12, 1962, in Waterloo, the daughter of Edward V. and Beverly Keegan Swift. She was an eighth grade student at Edison Junior High.

Survivors are her mother; two sisters, Lori Jean and Dee Ann, both at home; a brother, Steven Lee, at home; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Francis Olmstead of 1207 Rainbow Dr.; and paternal grandfather, J. E. Swift of Mt. Auburn.

Her father died in 1966.

Friends may call at O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home after 10 a.m. Tuesday.

MAN CHARGED IN FATAL CRASH

A 25-year-old man appeared in Waterloo court Monday on charges the car he was driving allegedly struck and killed two children in the 1600 block of Commercial Street early Sunday.

He is accused of striking the two youngsters, Thomas Anthony Luck, 11, son of Mrs. Dorothy J. Luck, 1904 Commercial St., and Wendy Sue Swift, 14, daughter of Mrs. Beverly J. Swift, 1253 Doreen Street.

The two, who police said were searching for nightcrawlers along the 1600 block of Commercial Street before the accident, were dead on arrival at St. Francis Hospital.

Police said the accident occurred about 11:45 p.m., though an ambulance wasn't summoned until after midnight.

The driver was reportedly traveling north on Commercial Street when his car struck the children who were along the curb, knocking them onto the grass parking.

He then allegedly left the scene of the accident and later went to the police station where he was arrested and booked on the complaints.

The children died of internal injuries.

Services for Wendy Sue Swift, 14, of 1253 Doreen St., will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church with burial in Midwest Garden of Memories.

Friends may call at the O'Keefe & Towne Funeral Home until 11 a.m. Wednesday and at the church for one hour before services.

She died of internal injuries received when she was struck by a car early Sunday in the 1900* block of Commercial Street while hunting nightcrawlers.
