WATERLOO — James L. Scholl, 70, of Hampstead, N.C., formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, April 5, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, N.C., due to complications during surgery.

He was born Sept. 30, 1942, in Waterloo, son of Daniel M. and Beatrice Scholl. He married Barbara Norte in 1965 in Waterloo and they later divorced. He married Karen Hall in 1981 in Waterloo.

Mr. Scholl attended Waterloo West High School, then joined the Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam. He then worked at John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works, retiring in 1998. He and his wife operated a boat shipping business for several years until recently.

Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Maria Tiller of Waterloo; a stepson, Dr. Hamilton (Tashana) Wells of Hampstead; three sisters, Diane (Peter) Lovie, of Katy, Texas, Charlotte (Tom) Spragg of Clear Lake and Emily Mishler of Viroqua, Wis.; two grandchildren, Shawn Scholl and Lilah Wells; and a great-granddaughter, Peyton Scholl.

Preceded in death by: a son James; a brother, Daniel; and two sisters, Meriem and Linda.

Celebration of Life: 3 to 6 p.m. April 18 at 1621 Hyperion Drive, Waterloo.

Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.

Jim loved fishing, traveling, playing poker, eating good food, and spending time with his family and his best friend Jack.
