WATERLOO — The Rev. Mark R. DeFeis, 57, of Overland Park, Kan., formerly of Waterloo, died Saturday, April 6, 2013.

He was born July 27, 1955, in Waterloo, son of George and Dorothea DeFeis.

He attended Grandview High School, Grandview, Mo., and received a bachelor’s degree in management and human relations from Mid America Nazarene University. He also earned ministerial study and specialized music ministry diplomas from Berean College. The Rev. DeFeis received his credentials in 1987 with the Assemblies of God, and soon after became a short term missionary to Liberia and England. He has served as associate pastor at churches in Olathe and Andover, Kan., transferring to Iowa in 2000 to serve as associate pastor at Faith Assembly of God Church, Elk Run Heights. He returned to Kansas and since 2006 has assisted Abundant Life Assembly of God, Overland Park, as an associate, music and youth pastor. He also launched Burning Bridges Ministries in Wichita, Kan., and has worked as an information technologies recruiter and a sportswriter.

Survived by a brother, Derrick of Overland Park.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Aleta Orum.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. today at Abundant Life Assembly of God, Shawnee, Kan., where there also will be Celebration of Life service at 6:30 p.m. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery.
