ELK RUN HEIGHTS — Susan M. Mervin, 61, of Elk Run Heights, died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

She was born May 7, 1951, in Manchester, daughter of Robert and Billie Thompson Brewer. She married Jerry J. Mervin on Dec. 24, 1987, in Rockford, Ill.

Mrs. Mervin worked as an inspector at John Deere for many years until retiring. She was a member of UAW Local 838.

Survived by her husband; two daughters, Michelle (Rachid) Kassisse of Aurora, Colo., and Melissa (Scott) Gunther of Fort Collins, Colo.; six grandchildren: Robert (Sabrina) Lee Jr., Allison, Jack and Haley Gunther, and Kenza and Laila Kassisse; a great-grandson, Robert “Little J” Lee III; her stepmother, Sandy Brewer of Hiawatha; and two step-sisters, Sarah of Ohio and Tammy of Hiawatha.

Preceded in death by her parents; her maternal grandparents; a son, Robert Lee Jr.; a brother, Sam Brewer; and an uncle, Vernon Thompson.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Countryside Vineyard Church, Evansdale, preceded by an hour of visitation. The Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo, is assisting the family.
