WATERLOO — Elwood “Woody” Steinbeck, 82, of Waterloo, died Jan. 29, 2013, at Mission Regional Medical Center, Mission, Texas.

He was born Feb. 10, 1930, in Brandon, son of Lon and Nina Kemp Steinbeck. He married Yvonne Wade in 1950 in Waterloo. She died in February 1995. He married Judy Springer on June 23, 1996, in Waterloo.

Mr. Steinbeck served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a supervisor of manufacturing engineering at John Deere, retiring after 36 1/2 years in 1984. After retirement he worked seven more years with John Deere on contract. He was a member of Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.

Survived by his wife; a son, Gregory (Tina) of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Cheryl (Bruce) VanKerckhove of Toddville and Regina (Bret) Thompson of Waterloo; a stepdaughter, Kami (Kevin) Happel of Atkins; four grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; a stepgreat-grandchild; and a brother, Daryl (Treva) Steinbeck of Owensboro, Ky.

Preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jocelyn Steinbeck.

Memorial services: 11 a.m. Friday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, preceded by an hour of visitation, with inurnment in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49.

Woody enjoyed wintering with Judy in Mission, Texas.
