Elverta Tilton

Elverta was born December 27, 1906, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the daughter of Albert Eugene and Anna Christina (Hansen) Sears. She graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1926 and moved to Davenport and worked in a restaurant prior to taking Cosmetology courses and eventually opening a beauty shop in Moline, IL. On July 5, 1933, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Dale Tilton in Waukegan, IL. He died July 21, 1960.

Elverta and Ken moved to the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area in 1935, where Ken went to work for Schoitz Engineering Works. Together they would develop the Tilton Addition in Cedar Falls and bought and sold numerous properties and Cedar Falls and Maquoketa.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Elverta died Friday, March 12, 2004, at her home in Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers; Wilfred, Gilbert and Richard Sears.
