CEDAR FALLS — Charles W Sampson, 86, of 1106 W. Fourth St., formerly of 1213 Glenny Ave., Waterloo, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of an aortic aneurysm.

He was born July 23, 1918, in Belmond, son of Joseph M. and Jeanette Gill Sampson. He married Genevieve Hoffman on May 18, 1946, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Sampson was employed in the meter department at the Iowa Public Service Co. for 28 years, retiring in 1980. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Guadalcanal and New Zealand from 1941 to 1945.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Deborah (Kenneth) Friend of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jo Murphy of Fairbank.

Preceded in death by a brother, Maurice, and a brother-in-law, Robert Murphy.

Services: were 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Falls, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Waterloo. Graveside military rites were conducted by American Legion Post No. 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street was in charge of arrangements.
