Roy Weikert

Roy was born October 26, 1923, in Stuart, Iowa, the son of Harry C. and Cora E. (Reighard) Weikert. He graduated from Stuart High School in 1942 and went on to serve his Country in the United States Army during World War II, participating in the June 6, 1944, D-Day invasion of Utah Beach.

On July 1, 1948, he was united in marriage to Betty L. Jones in Eldon, MO. He owned and operated Jones DX in Cedar Falls for 38 years, retiring in May of 1988. He was a member of the Black Hawk Lodge #65 A.F. & A.M., and both the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49 and Cedar Falls American Legion #237.

Roy is survived by his wife, Betty of Cedar Falls; two sons, Jerry R. Weikert of Kirkland, WA and Rod S. (Kellie) Weikert of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Emily and Joel; brother, Richard Weikert of Cedar Falls and sister, Florence Eddy of Dysart.

Roy died Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Slim, Leo and Harry Weikert and two sisters, Fern Hach and Maxine Tomylanovich.
