Nick Zubak

Nick was born January 14, 1925, son of Louis (Luka) and Ana (Mataic) Zubak. He served his Country in the United States Navy as a machinist during World War II on the U.S.S. Columbia.

He married Elizabeth Eagan. They were later divorced. He then married Pat Mahlstedt December 21, 1972 in Washburn, IA. He worked for the Illinois Central railroad prior to and following the war. He then owned and operated Nick's Lounge in Cedar Falls from 1953 until his retirement in 1986. He was founder and board member of the Main Street Social Club and member of the North Shore Boat Club and the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49.

Nick is survived by his wife, Pat of Cedar Falls; step son Richard (Jean) Mahlstedt of Waterloo; step daughters, Kathy (Robert) Reimler of Brooklyn Park, MN and Julie (Jim) Jenney of Cedar Falls; two sons, Tracy Zubak of Aurora, IL and David Zubak of San Diego, CA; previous wife, Elizabeth Zubak of Cedar Falls; step daughters, Sandy Messingham and Susan (Joe) Jordan Kemp, all of Cedar Falls; step son, Mark (Erma) Hilton of Colorado; son, Nick (Cindy) Zubak Jr. of Cedar Falls; daughters, Ann (Chip) Wood of Cedar Falls and Samantha Zubak of Denver; several grand and great grandchildren and nieces and nephews; sisters, Helen Kane and Rose Zubak, both of Waterloo and brother, John Zubak of Parkersburg.

Nick died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Mary Frances; son, Dan Zubak; brother, Frank Zubak; sisters, Mary and Frances (in infancy); and step-daughter, Pat Nielsen.
