Alvin F Syhlman, 85, of Cedar Falls and formerly of Dike died Monday, April 26, 2004 at Windsor Nursing & Rehab Center.

He was born December 11, 1918 in rural Dike, son of Ella Syhlman, who later married Jacob Everts. He married Viola Tjepkes April 22, 1943 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Alvin was a retired farmer and had a tiling business, and he also served in the Army during World War II from 1942-1945.

Alvin is survived by his wife, a son Steve (Pamela) Syhlman of Waterloo, a son in-law Raymond Bertram of Waterloo, a daughter Sylvia (Robert) Frenchick of Iowa Falls, six grandchildren, Brian Bertram, Mark Bertram, Chad Syhlman, Matt Syhlman, Phillip Frenchick and Rachel Frenchick, nine great– grandchildren, a half brother Lester (Hazel) Everts of Cedar Falls, and two half sisters Ella (Harlan) Eckhoff of Cedar Falls and Tena (Warren) Behrends of Traer.

He was preceded in death by a daughter Sandra Bertram, and his mother and step-father.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 29, 2004, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls, with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.

A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
