DROPS DEAD IN CHAIR ON PORCH
MARIETTA WILLIAMS OF CEDAR FALLS SUDDENLY CALLED
Old and Esteemed Resident and Mother of Mrs. G. B. Rowell
Cedar Falls, Aug. 17. - With the remark, "I guess I will take a sip of water and brandy to see if I can cool off" Mrs. Marietta Williams, who conducts a boarding house at corner of Sixth and Washington Streets, dropped dead in a chair on the porch of her home at 10 o'clock last night. She had done a hard day's work and before being stricken had joked with the boarders, remarking that she could yet do as much labor as many persons who were much younger. Heart trouble, with which she had been afflicted, was the cause of the sudden summons.
Several doctors were hastily called, but they could do nothing, life having become extinct when Mrs. Williams collapsed in the chair.
Mrs. Williams was perhaps sixty years of age, and was the mother of Mrs. George B. Rowell of Waterloo; also of W. F. Williams, with the International Harvester Co. of Dubuque, and Harry Williams of St. Paul. Her husband, who was connected with the Williams Manufacturing Co., died about twelve years ago.
Gail Dayton and Mrs. Al. Boehmler hurried to Sans Souci in the former's automobile to break the news of Mrs. William's death to the daughter, Mrs. Rowell, at the latter's summer cottage.
Mrs. Williams, who was cognizant of the weak condition of her heart, had often remarked that she expected to be called away suddenly. She was not contented, however, to sit idle, and had for some time conducted a boarding house.
Mrs Williams had long been a resident of Cedar Falls and the family has a wide acquaintance. Her husband and son conducted the Williams Manufacturing Co., which was sold some time ago to the Wagner Manufacturing Co. She was sister of David Onan.

[Waterloo Times Tribune, Friday, August 20, 1909]
Mrs. Marrietta Williams was born in Cattaragus County. N. Y., about eighteen miles from the place where her husband was born. By a strange coincidence both families removed to Illinois about the same time and settled about the same distance apart. But not for many years were they acquainted with each other. Forty-eight years ago she was married to W. T. Williams and they came to live in Cedar Falls in 1861. The husband enlisted in the army and the young wife returned to Illinois to remain with her parents until his return, since which time they have continued to make this city their home and here they reared their family.
Katherine, a beloved daughter, died twenty-four years ago. The children and grandchildren surviving are: Mrs. George B. Rowell and two sons, James and Harry of Waterloo, W. E. Williams and two children, Harold and Katherine of Dubuque, and H. C. Williams of St. Paul, Minn. The brothers and sisters living are: Hart Owan of Jasper, Minn. and John Owan; Mrs. F. E. Lislie of Wilmer, Minn., Mrs. Ella Carlton of Cass Lake, Minn., and Mrs. Viola Shannon of Sisseton, N.D.* One brother, David Owan, of Cedar Falls, died last March and her mother passed away in September 1908.

It seems the town of Sisseton is in S.D., not N.D.
This researcher isn't sure about last name Owan. The old newspaper was hard to read with gaps in letters. Find a Grave has "Oman" and in her husband's obit is "Onan".----------------------------------
