WATERLOO - Alvin R. Wheeler, 86, of Friendship Village, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007, at Friendship Village Retirement Center.

He was born May 23, 1921, in Dunkerton, son of Roy and Doris Smith Wheeler. He married Dorothy Philp May 14, 1945, in Hudson.

He graduated from Dunkerton High School. Mr. Wheeler farmed in Orange, was a partner in Washland Leasing Co. for 19 years and was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

Survived by his wife; a son, Keith (Maria) of Chandler, Ariz.; two grandsons, Seth Wheeler and Caleb Wheeler; two step-grandchildren, Crystal Klein and Aaron Klein; a brother, Cletus of Waterloo; three sisters, Rea Moss of Indianola, Gladys Day of Cedar Falls and Doris Sanchez of Capistrano Beach, Calif.; and Arlene Lofstuen of Waterloo, who was raised by his parents as a daughter.

Preceded in death by a son, Kendell A.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cedar Heights Baptist Church, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Locke Funeral Home, and for an hour before services at the church on Monday.
