George Spies, 85, of 2826 E 4th St., died at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday at Allen Memorial Hospital of complications incident to advanced age.

A resident of Waterloo 43 years, he formerly farmed near Dunkerton. After coming here he was employed 14 years by the Rath Packing Company until his retirement. His wife Mabel, died in 1963.

Surviving are two daughters, Vera at home, and Mrs. Everett Ackerman of Cedar Falls; a son, Floyd, of Dunkerton; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Martha Eicher of Waterloo.

Funeral services are pending at the Brant Funeral Home, Oelwein.

Services for George Spies, 85, of 2626, E. 4th Street, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church.

The Rev. Gary Rief, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Daniel Bean, pastor of Dunkerton Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Dunkerton.

Friends may call at the Brant Funeral Home, Oelwein or at the First Baptist Church Chapel after 10 a.m. Thursday. Those who wish may give memorial to either First Baptist Church or Dunkerton Baptist Church.

Mr. Spies died Tuesday at Allen Memorial Hospital of complications incident to advanced age. He lived in Waterloo since 1943 and was employed for 14 years at Rath Packing Company.
