Services for Henry J. "Hank" Niedert, 67, of 1100 Bishop Ave., will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Oppold Funeral Home with burial in Waterloo Cemetery, where graveside military rites will be conducted by Becker- Chapman Post 138 of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623.

Mr. Niedert died of complications of Alzheimer's disease Sunday morning (April 12, 1987) at the Veteran's Home, Knoxville.

He was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Waterloo, son of Edward and Velda Macumber Niedert. He married Xene E. Swanson on June 28, 1939, in Waterloo.

He was a sausage stuffer at Rath Packing Co, for 31 years, retiring in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Bennie of Davenport, Steven of Elk Run Heights, Joseph of Waterloo and Frank of Evansdale; two daughters, Susan Millett of Hamilton, Mo., and Evelyn Deck of Sheridan, Ark.; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Fred of Waterloo; and two stepsisters, Ethel Reitz of Waterloo and Ima Jean Kadelka of California.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Minnie, Mildred, Zatha and Louise; and a brother, James.

A VFW Walk-by will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, where friends may call after 2 p.m. today.
