Mary E. Neptune, 84, of Waterloo and formerly of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, October 14, 2006, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

She was born November 13, 1921 at Ft. Wayne, Indiana, the daughter of Russell and Bessie (Lord) Cowan. Mary was united in marriage to Herman Robert Neptune on November 6, 1945 at Alliance, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on August 21, 2004. Mary was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Women’s Reserve (SPARS) during WW II. She and her husband owned and operated Neptune Car Wash in Cedar Falls.

Survivors include three sons: Kenneth (JoDee) Neptune of Cedar Falls, David (Lori) Neptune of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho and Jay Neptune of Waterloo, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and two sisters, Betty Kirk and Donna (Eugene) Backofen, both of Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and husband, and two brothers, Bill and Clyde Cowan.

Memorial services will be 1:30 pm Tuesday, October 17, 2006, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to Countryside Vineyard Church in Evansdale.
