WATERLOO - Hazel M. Holthaus, 84, of Waterloo, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, at Allen Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 12, 1924, in Delaware, daughter of Carl Wilhelm and Marie Esther Smith Larson. She married John C. Holthaus on July 27, 1946, in Waterloo. He preceded her in death May 25, 2000.

She worked at Powers Manufacturing in the athletic wear department, Rath Packing Company and Paramount Drug.

She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter #128.

Survived by a son, Bruce K. of Glendora, Calif.; a sister, Arlene Sheehy of Waterloo; special cousin, Florence (Jerome) Curtis of Waterloo; a good friend, Anna Everding of Denver; and a grandson, Samuel.

Preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Elwin E. and Gerald Larson.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the church, Friendship Village Foundation or Cedar Valley Hospice.
