Earnest G. Belew, 75, of 533 Conger St., died Thursday, April 1, 1993, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born Nov. 2, 1917, in Atwood, Tenn., son of Eddie Clarence and Berta Lee Stewart Belew. He married Wilda Sauer Westphal Dec. 30, 1958, in Waterloo.

Mr. Belew served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed for 28 years at Rath Packing Co. and was also a salesman at Friedley Lincoln-Mercury, Tate Cadillac-Olds, Mark Gill Buick and Community Motors. Most recently he was a crossing guard for the Waterloo Schools.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Sherrie Russell Peters of Waterloo; two stepsons, Ralph Westphal Jr. of Cottage Grove, Minn, and Richard Westphal of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Travis "Sammie" Belew of Congers, Ga., and LeRoy 'Tom" Belew of Milan, Tenn.; and a sister, Wilma Webb of Atwood, Tenn.

Services will be 1 p.m Monday at Oppold-Hagarty Funeral Home, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, with graveside military rites by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post No. 138 and VFW Post 1623. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until services Monday.
