[Iowa State Reporter, Thursday, November 7, 1889, Waterloo, Iowa]

S. B. Vinton, a well-known citizen of the county, received the fatal summons last Friday morning, and although in feeble health for some time, not very many knew of his illness before receiving the news of his death.

Mr. Vinton was a pioneer in the west. He was born in Canada July 17, 1814, and removed to Watertown, Wis.. in 1837. When he settled in Watertown, Wisconsin, Iowa, and all this western country was comprised in what was known as the Northwest Territory. Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Minneapolis were comparatively villages, with not very much promise of the wonderful cities they have developed into.

Mr. Vinton came to this county in 1869, and for a number of years resided on a farm in Blackhawk Township, where he lived until a few months ago, when he moved to Waterloo. He was a genial, pleasant gentleman, and had many friends among our citizens.

He leaves a wife and two daughters.
