[Waterloo Courier, Wednesday, May 26, 1880, Waterloo, Iowa]

Erwin M. Cobb was born in Yorkshire, Cattaraugus Co., New York, and died at his residence in Waterloo, Iowa on the morning of May 16th, aged thirty-three years, five months and four days, of disease of the brain.

Mr. Cobb came west with his family about five years ago, for the purpose of making a prosperous and happy home in the midst of many eastern people, was already realizing his desire when disease took possession of his brain, and slowly but surely blighted his expectations. Vacillating between hope of recovery and fear of fatal results, he passed many long and weary and painful months with the most constant care that an affectionate wife and skillful physicians could give, aided by their many neighbors and friends. But he sank slowly down into the arms of death, and is now at rest. He was not afraid to die, but he could not be reconciled to separation from his beloved wife and children, yet he hoped to meet them again in the land of the blessed.

He leaves a wife and three children, besides two brothers and one sister and many relations and friends, to remember and mourn his oarly and sad taking away.

The funeral services were held at his late residence on the 17th. conducted by Rev. J. J. Austin in presence of a large number of friends after which the body was taken east for the final burial service, at his early home.

Mrs. Cobb's father, B. G. .Smith, was present during the last few days of Mr Cobb's life, and accompanied his remains east and took charge of the final burial service.

Mrs. Cobb wishes to express her gratitude to friends for their many offices of kindness.
