Judith A. Dixon, 67, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center, Waterloo. She was born the daughter of Vane and Marie (Hinton) Graham on September 10, 1941 in Marshalltown, Iowa.

After graduating from Beaman-Conrad High School, she received her BA and MA in special education from UNI. Judy spent the next 46 years employed by AEA 7/267 as a special education educator and consultant.

Students, families, educators and administrators a like were touched and empowered by her genuine passion for children and commitment to quality education. She was a woman of action and led by example.

Judy found joy in many things: a good book, strong black coffee, time at the cabin, NPR, the “girlfriends”,

chocolate, music, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and her home by the river.

Her absolute greatest joy began 15 years ago when she whole heartedly embraced her favorite role, that of grandma.

Judy is survived by one son, William E. Dixon and one daughter, Rachel (David) Scott, both of Waterloo and two grandchildren, Graham and Emma Scott.

Memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 2009, at St. Timothy’s United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. Memorials can be directed to Lincoln Savings Bank for a scholarship fund, that has been established in Judy’s name, that will benefit an East Waterloo High School student. Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
