Mary Jane Michaelsen, 88, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, May 8, 2009, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She was born November 24, 1920 at Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond & Alberta (Fox) Reihsen.

Mary Jane married Gilbert R. Michaelsen on July 9, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa. He preceded her in death on September 10, 2002. She is a graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic School in Waterloo, Dowling Junior College in Des Moines, and received her teaching degree in English and Drama from Drake University in Des Moines. She taught school in Conroy, Parkersburg, and Arnolds Park, Iowa. Mary Jane and her husband farmed for many years west of Dike, and were the owners and operators of Paradise Park for “Winter Texans” in Pharr, Texas.

Survivors include her two sons, Jon Michaelsen of Dike, Iowa and Ron (Marcia) Michaelsen of Cedar Falls; her daughter, Jane (Dale) Doddema of rural Cedar Falls, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; and her brother, James F. Reihsen of Johnston, Iowa.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents and her husband; three sisters, Joan Reihsen, Janet Reihsen, and Elizabeth Thiltgen; and a brother, Donald Reihsen.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2009 at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today, and one hour before service time on Monday at the funeral home.
