WATERLOO — William “Bill” Collins, 83, of Waterloo, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Iowa Veterans Home from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born May 20, 1929, in Bemidji, Minn., son of James and Olive Henjum Collins. He married Donna Hein on Feb. 14, 1953, in Waterloo.

Mr. Collins was a self-employed truck driver all of his life, retiring in 2002. He also was a U.S. Army combat Veteran of the Korean War and a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Survived by his wife of Waterloo; two sons, William of Denver and James of Waterloo; two granddaughters, Katheryn Collins of Waterloo and Sara Collins of Mankato, Minn.; and a sister, Marie Collins of Golden Valley, Minn.

Preceded in death by two brothers, John and James.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 138, VFW Post No. 1623, and Iowa National Guard. Visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Locke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church, the Alzheimer’s association or Iowa Veteran’s Home.
