WATERLOO, IOWA - William J. "Bill" Plummer, 78, of 961 E. Donald St., died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001 at Allen Hospital from complications of a stroke.

He was born September 1, 1922, in Waterloo, son of John H. "Jack" and Josephine I. Chevalier Plummer. He married Mildred "Millie" Schmidt on June 24, 1950, in Waterloo.

Mr. Plummer was employed as a railroad engineer for 42 years with the Illinois Central Railroad, retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Scott of Chicago, a daughter, Patricia Luloff of Cedar Falls; two granddaughters; and a brother, Richard "Dick," of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John "Jack".

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Hagarty-Waychoff Granup Funeral Serive on South Street, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also for an hour before services Friday at the church.
